Ayurveda focuses not only on the treatment of disease, but also on the prevention of disease. Therefore, it is also a preventive medicine. An imbalance between the three doshas can lead to diseases, and the aim of Ayurveda is to always maintain a balance between these three doshas in order to preserve good health.

The word Agni in Sanskrit means fire. Agni is the one that controls all processes of the digestive and metabolic system. The importance of Agni can be found in the definition of health in Ayurvedic Medicine: "Sama dosha sama Agnischa sama dhatu mala kriyaPrasanna atma indriya manaha swastha ithi abhideeyathe" (Susruta).
